Sukanya Purkayastha

Sukanya is a singer-songwriter from Mumbai, India. She grew up in Delhi and later moved to Mumbai to pursue her singing career and to do a master’s degree in Social Work. She is well known for her songs in Bollywood films and television, including include Paani da Rang, Mannerless Majnu, Kaisi hai ye Udaasi, and Saiyaan Naino ki bhasha. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Music in Development at SOAS, University of London, where she is researching songs of peace amongst pastoralists in Northern Kenya.

She has also conducted workshops with university and primary students in the UK and India on diversity and integration through South Asian music, and has performed at various festivals such as Small is Beautiful in the UK.
