The research traces people’s journeys out of Boko Haram, explores how repentant defectors and their communities navigate official and informal reintegration, and analyses how gaps in DDRRR programmes shape experiences of reconciliation, disaffection or recidivism. Using rigorous, ethically grounded methods, the project will generate novel insights with scholarly and policy impact, culminating in a university press monograph and an accompanying documentary film that follows the “whole journey” of former associates. Findings will also inform a new graduate seminar developed by the lead researcher.
