This project examines how pastoralists in the Karamoja–Turkana borderlands build trust, share resources and manage insecurity through customary, community and government institutions. Led by pastoralist researchers, it explores how these institutions govern cross-border mobility and access to water and grazing, and how they can work together more accountably amid climate pressures, political marginalisation and violent insecurity. The project builds on two earlier Institute of Development Studies-led XCEPT studies using community action research on the Uganda–Kenya and Kenya–Somalia borders.
