Dr Costanza Torre is the Lead Researcher on the South Sudan branch of the XCEPT research programme at King’s College London. Dr Torre is a medical anthropologist with a background in Clinical Psychology and a PhD in International Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
Her work uses ethnographic methods to explore the socio-political dimensions of public health interventions in complex emergencies, as well as minority populations’ lived experiences of suffering under social, economic, and political duress. Her doctoral research in northern Uganda focuses on the current expansion of global mental health thinking and practice in humanitarian emergencies, and on the role of social and structural determinants of mental health. Dr Torre is also a Visiting Fellow at the Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa (FLIA) at LSE.
