Peter Salisbury

Columbia University

Peter Salisbury is a veteran journalist, researcher and policy analyst with more than 15 years’ experience work in the Middle East and North Africa, Europe and the US. Currently based in Brooklyn, New York, he has lived and worked in Spain, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, the UK, the US and Yemen.

A former Senior Analyst at the International Crisis Group, and Senior Fellow at Chatham House, the UK’s Royal Institute for International Affairs, his primary expertise is in the political economy of, and international policy towards, Yemen and the Gulf Arab states. The former energy editor of the Middle East Economic Digest (MEED), Peter’s work as a journalist appeared in the Economist, Foreign Policy, the Financial Times and Reuters among others. He won an Emmy and Canadian Screen award for his work with VICE News.

He has consulted to the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the United Nations’ Economic and Social Commission for West Asia, and the World Bank. He holds an MSc in International Politics from the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies.
