The Lake Chad Region is suffering from the compounding effects of violent conflict and climate related extreme weather events that have an impact on water and food security and cause population displacement. In response, the countries bordering Lake Chad Basin – Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria – in collaboration with the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and the African Union, developed a Regional Strategy for the Stabilisation, Recovery and Resilience (RS-SRR). The policy brief summarises findings from a Rapid Evidence Assessment (REA), undertaken for the climate, peace and security risks in the Lake Chad region research project (CPS-Lake Chad). The REA strengthened the literature review by incorporating the perspectives of local voices and policy audiences through workshops with researchers and civil society actors from the Lake Chad region, alongside policymakers engaged in the RS‑SRR, including representatives from the Lake Chad Basin Commission, the United Nations system and international donors.
