The Lake Chad region continues to face the combined effects of violent conflict, climate‑related shocks and environmental degradation. These pressures undermine livelihoods, strain natural resources and drive population displacement.

To support regional efforts to confront these challenges, the Climate, Peace and Security in the Lake Chad Basin (CPS‑Lake Chad) project carried out a Rapid Evidence Assessment (REA). The assessment explored how climate variability interacts with security dynamics and community resilience. It is based on an extensive review of existing research and is enriched by the insights of local researchers, civil society representatives and policy actors who joined workshops across the region.

Their contributions strengthen the evidence base and reflect the priorities of practitioners involved in regional stabilisation work, including those linked to the Lake Chad Basin Commission, the United Nations system and international partners. The resulting analysis brings together emerging risks and identifies opportunities to advance more coherent, climate‑sensitive responses that support stability and resilience in the Lake Chad region.
